Resurrecting Shadows: The Epic Journey of Obsidian’s Symphonic Death Metal
Hey there, fellow metalheads and soul-searching wanderers! Get ready to dive headfirst into the dark and symphonic realm of Obsidian, a powerhouse collective born in the heart of California. Let’s set the stage for this epic tale of metal resurrection that spans two decades and brings us to the brink of 2023!
Picture this: a band emerges from the shadows of Modesto, California, back in the early 2000s. Obsidian was a stunning collective effort, each member contributing their own unique genius to the mix. Deimitri Reyes, a force to be reckoned with, took on the vocal and rhythm guitar duties, while Danny Stevenson’s keyboard wizardry infused ethereal symphonies into their soundscapes. Josh Jones, the bass maestro himself, laid down the foundation with a pulse that shook the very core of the earth. Mike Maxwell’s blistering lead guitar work ignited a fiery storm, while Justin Driskill’s vocals soared high above the heavens.
But as life’s unpredictable twists often play their hand, change was inevitable. Obsidian bid farewell to Mike and Justin, leading to Deimitri taking the helm as the band’s primary vocalist. A void remained, one that could only be filled by a skilled drummer. In a twist of fate, Alex Bosson stepped into the fray, armed with rhythmic prowess that breathed new life into the band’s heartbeat.
In 2003, Obsidian’s haunting melodies and thunderous roars found their way into the world with the self-released EP, “Enslaved By Nightmares.” Three epic tracks, spanning nearly 25 minutes, left listeners spellbound and yearning for more.
Not content to rest on their laurels, Obsidian welcomed Nate Amundsen as a new second guitarist in 2004, perfecting their lineup. Their passion for music was evident as they set out to conquer the stages of California and Arizona, leaving a trail of awe-struck fans in their wake.
However, life has its way of unfolding stories that even the most ardent dreamers couldn’t predict. In 2005, Obsidian faced the bitter truth of parting ways, each member pulled by different currents. But oh, the unshakable bond that held them together! It never felt quite right to say goodbye, especially when they had a full-length album’s worth of unreleased material still tucked away in their hearts.
Fast forward to 2021, a year that called for resurrection and revival. Danny and Alex ignited the spark of reunion, and soon, the original Obsidian lineup, with the collective determination of all its members, reunited like phoenixes rising from ashes. The name seemed to fit like a glove: THE OBSIDIAN RESURRECTION. Alas, life’s tapestry weaves its course, and Nate eventually decided to part ways. His contributions, forever etched in their history, would not be forgotten as they marched forward.
Now, in 2023, after two decades of anticipation, Obsidian is on the verge of releasing their long-awaited debut full-length album. With sweat, passion, and unwavering dedication, they have crafted a magnum opus that will echo through the halls of eternity.
